Event Description:

The Klingenstein Center, in partnership with Global Online Academy, is thrilled to announce a new learning series for school leaders: Building Capacity. The Building Capacity series will be a series of five online courses designed to meet new and emerging leaders at their learning edge. Each course will center Equity and Inclusion, Social Emotional Learning, and Mind Brain Education, and design a blend of synchronous and asynchronous learning to support the development of relevant, practical, and job-embedded leadership capacities. Each course also understands leadership as a capacity that is practiced throughout a school and at every stage of an educator’s career.

Registration is now open for an encore run of the first course of the series, Listening Leadership. Join us July 26 - August 6 for this two-week, interdisciplinary, self-paced, primarily asynchronous learning experience with one synchronous zoom meeting per week. Listening is an essential competency of school leaders, especially at a time in which we are stretching to listen from a muted distance or in order to build bridges in the face of polarization.

As a cohort, we’ll engage ways of listening as we think and reflect on our leadership. We’ll have plenty of opportunities to practice listening while focused on these key questions:

  • In what ways might listening leadership catalyze equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression work in our schools?
  • How might we develop our capacity to listen in a variety of ways that support and enhance continuously our personal leadership growth?
  • How might we cultivate cultures of listening in our schools?
  • What are a few practical and creative ways to employ a listening leadership?
  • What do we do when it's hard to listen – or to get people to listen?
  • How might we be better audiences for each other?

Facilitated by Nicole Brittingham Furlonge, Klingenstein Center Director and Professor of Practice, this experience will bring together a global network of school leaders to engage and discuss relevant resources, to collaborate as they learn, and to share emerging questions and strategies as we build our capacity as listening leaders. As we learn, we will do so in a network of leaders from schools around the globe—all while benefiting from the interdisciplinary-informed research and leadership development practices of the Klingenstein Center and from Global Online Academy’s expertise in online learning design.
