As schools seek to develop student abilities in key competencies like perspective taking and intercultural communication, how are educators designing learning opportunities with them in mind? What works and what doesn't, and for which students, when it comes to off-campus learning?
This session is facilitated by Dr. Clare Sisisky, postdoctoral research fellow at the Klingenstein Center. Drawing from research with over 190 young alumni from 6 different independent schools, the importance of relational learning across cultural and linguistic differences is clear. But the study also revealed some key improvements needed, especially in relation to service-focused programs. This session will focus on how educators can design and re-design off-campus learning experiences, close to home and across the world, that maximize student development of the intercultural and global competencies that align to the school's mission and enable them to engage as global citizens.
